The Intelligence Behind Xtell Is Built With UK Professionals, Not Just For Them

Real displacement risk scores, refined by the professionals who live and breathe these roles every day.

    How Xtell Scores Work

Xtell's displacement risk scores start with a foundation of published research; the UK Government's DSIT AI occupational assessment, McKinsey's Future of Work archetype framework, Adzuna UK vacancy data, and LinkedIn skills signals.

But no data source, however rigorous, knows your role better than you do.

That's why every score on Xtell is open to professional validation. When enough people in a role tell us a score feels wrong, we investigate and update it. The platform gets smarter over time because of the professionals using it.

    What the McKinsey Archetypes Mean

Every role on Xtell is classified against one of seven McKinsey Future of Work archetypes. These describe how AI and automation are changing the balance between human workers, AI software agents, and physical robots in each role. When you select an archetype for your role, you're telling us which best describes what's actually happening in your day-to-day work.

    People-Centric

Humans handle most of the work, using AI as a supporting tool. Human judgment, relationships, and presence remain central.

Typical of complex sales, advisory, and relationship-driven roles.

    People–Agent

Humans work alongside AI software agents that provide real-time guidance or automate specific subtasks. The human leads; the agent assists.

Typical of customer service, knowledge work, and roles using AI co-pilots.

    People–Robot

Humans work alongside physical robots that handle repetitive or physically demanding tasks. The human provides oversight, judgment, and adaptability.

Typical of maintenance, healthcare support, and technical roles.

    People–Agent–Robot

A mixed environment where humans manage both AI software agents and physical robots. The human role shifts toward coordination, oversight, and exception handling.

Typical of surgical roles, advanced manufacturing, and complex operations.

    Agent-Centric

AI agents handle most of the cognitive work. Humans supervise outputs and intervene when needed. Displacement risk is significant for those performing the tasks the agent now handles.

Typical of automated content, data processing, and routine customer service.

    Robot-Centric

Robots perform most of the physical work. Humans manage, maintain, and oversee the technology rather than performing the tasks directly.

Typical of automated production lines and warehouse operations.

    Agent–Robot-Centric

AI agents and robots work together with minimal human intervention. Human roles are reduced to high-level oversight, system management, and edge-case resolution.

Typical of fully automated logistics and supply chain fulfilment.

Most roles sit within one archetype today - but this changes as AI capability develops. Your view on where your role sits right now is exactly the intelligence Xtell needs.

How Your Feedback Shapes the Platform

When you rate a displacement score on any role page, you're contributing to a growing dataset of professional opinion that sits alongside the research-based score.

    Thumbs up

You're telling us the score feels accurate for your experience of this role at your seniority level.

    Thumbs down + suggested score

You're telling us the score is off, and giving us a direction. If enough professionals in the same role agree, the score gets flagged for review.

    Archetype selection

You're telling us which McKinsey category you think best describes what's actually happening in your role. This is some of the most valuable data we collect because archetype classification drives the score, and you know your role's task composition better than any algorithm.

All feedback is anonymous. Your name and personal details are never attached to individual responses.

    Why This Matters

The professionals most affected by AI displacement are also the ones best placed to assess it accurately.

A junior copywriter knows whether AI tools are genuinely replacing their work or just changing how they do it. A senior data engineer knows whether the vacancy market feels as weak as the numbers suggest. A bid manager knows whether AI is a co-pilot or a threat.

Xtell exists to give UK professionals the intelligence they need to make informed career decisions. The more professionals contribute, the better that intelligence becomes for everyone.
